MISSION
1. To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, places of worship, and thoroughtout the community.
2. To raise the standards of home life.
3. To advocate for laws that furher the eudcation, physical and mental health, welfare, and safety of children and youth.
4. To promote the collaboration and engagement of families and educators in the educationo of children and youth.
5. To engage the public in united efforts to secure the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing of all children and youth
6. To advocate for fiscal responsitiblity regarding public tax dollars in public education funding.

Sunny Tamrakar

President

As the President, Sunny Tamrakar leads the entire team, providing strategic direction and overseeing all operations. He is responsible for supporting all seven PTAs in Lawndale. He was the President at Lucille Smith Elementary for two years and currently is their Parliamentarian. Sunny guides the organization to do more and be more. He establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders, customers, and partners, and represents the company in various business and community events. He's really excited to have more partnerships and serve all families and students in Lawndale.

Brandon Church

Vice President of Programs

Brandon Church is the Vice President of Programs, responsible for overseeing the development and execution of all programs within our organization. Brandon a major driver in making Lawndale Elementary School District better for all students advocating for field trips and access for all famillies. For the past two years, he was the President of William Green Elementary PTA. He currently serves at the Treasurer at Green.

Maylet Romo

Vice President of Membership

Maylet Romo holds the position of Vice President of Membership, overseeing the organization's membership efforts. She works closely with the Membership Committee to develop and execute plans for attracting new members and retaining existing ones. Maylet's focus is on enhancing the value of membership by organizing events, providing resources, and fostering connections among members. Maylet also served as President for two years at Anderson Elementary PTA. She currently serves as Anderson's Treasurer. With her strong organizational skills and dedication to member satisfaction, she ensures the sustained growth and engagement of the membership base. Maylet's contributions are instrumental in creating a thriving and supportive community for all members.

Ann Phillips

Treasurer

Ann Phillips holds the position of Treasurer on the team. In this role, she is in charge of maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records. She handles banking transactions, prepares financial reports, and provides financial guidance to other team members. With excellent organizational skills and a thorough understanding of financial management, Ann ensures that the team’s finances are kept in order and that funds are used efficiently. She plays a crucial role in the team’s overall financial success. Ann is the current President of the School Board of Trustees for the Lawndale Elementary School District. Ann has been a huge part of Lawndale's PTAs. On the Council level, she was the chairperson for the Holiday Baskets program and the Diane Bollinger Scholarship program for many years. She also served as President at William Anderson Elementary PTA and President at Lawndale Council of PTAs.

Ni Kal Price

Financial Reviewer

Ni Kal Price serves as our diligent and astute Financial Reviewer. In this role, she is responsible for carefully examining financial documents to ensure their accuracy and compliance. Ni Kal Price conducts in-depth reviews of financial statements, balance sheets, and other financial reports. His meticulous analysis helps identify any deficiencies, discrepancies, or potential risks. Ni Kal served as President of Mark Twain Elementary PTA for two years leading them to become a PTA School of Excellence. Twain's PTA also won the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award during her time as President. She also was Treasurer for Lawndale Council for the past two years.

Stephanie Ruiz

Secretary

Stephanie Ruiz holds the position of Secretary in our team. As the Secretary, Stephanie is adept at taking minutes and maintaining accurate records. Her excellent communication and multitasking abilities make her an invaluable asset to our team. Although she just stated in PTA this year, she has jumped both feet in serving as Lawndale Council's Secretary and William Anderson's Secretary as well! We're so lucky to have her.

Daniela Velasco

Historian

As the Historian of our team, Daniela Velasco plays a vital role in preserving and presenting the historical narrative of our projects. She compiles our volunteer hours and documents the events at the council level and at the unit level. Daniela served as the Treasurer for Will Rogers PTSA and is also the current Historian at Lucille Smith Elementary PTA. She also is in the second year as the Vice President for the District Parent Advisory Committee for LESD.

Melissa DeChandt

Legislative Advocacy Chair

As the Legislative Advocacy Chair, Melissa DeChandt is responsible for leading the team's efforts to advocate for legislative change. She conducts research on relevant policies and laws, identifies key stakeholders, and works to create studies so Lawndale Council can take a position. Melissa serves as the Director of Health and Community Concerns with the 33rd District PTA. She also served as the Director of Legislation for 33rd district supporting three different resolutions to pass this past April. With her expertise in policy analysis and her passion for social change, Melissa plays a crucial role in driving legislative reforms.

Lisa Snowiss

Reflections Art Program Chair

As the Reflections Chair, Lisa Snowiss is responsible for organizing and overseeing the annual Reflections program. She coordinates with teachers, parents, and students to encourage artistic expression through various mediums such as visual arts, literature, photography, and more. Lisa ensures that all entries meet the program's guidelines and assists in the judging process. Lisa's role as the Reflections Chair fosters a sense of community and supports the development of artistic skills among students. Lisa serves as part on the California PTA's Reflections committee and was its past chairperson. She also served many different roles in multiple schools in Torrance Council of PTAs from membership chair to Preisident.

Lawndale Council of PTAs advocates for all students. LCPTAs has advocated for a more streamlined volunteer process for parents, better safety protocols, to improved educational opportunities for students.

Holiday Baskets Program

Holiday Baskets Program

For 66 years, the Lawndale Council of PTAs has supported the most vulnerable families in LESD with a holiday food distribution. This year, LCPTAs is expanding our program to cover 300 families and over 50 items per family.

Diane Bollinger High School Scholarship

Diane Bollinger High School Scholarship

Every year, Lawndale Council of PTAs awards five $250 high school scholarships to amazing high schoolers at each of the five Centinela Valley Union High Schools. Students must be alumni of Jane Addams Middle or Will Rogers Middle and most demonstrate a persistence to secure a post-high school education and have provided consistent service to the community. This program is named after a highly regarded member of the Lawndale Community for her years of service. She served as a PTA volunteer in Lawndale at multiple schools and at the council level for 20 years. She also was a member of the LESD Board of Trustees.

8th Grade Grant Program

8th Grade Grant Program

The Lawndale Council of PTAs is proud to have a program to celebrate amazing 8th graders who go above and beyond at their schools. This program provides educational grants for students to use for programs to further their educational goals after graduating from either Jane Addams Middle or Will Rogers Middle.

Candidates Forum for School Board

Candidates Forum for School Board

Lawndale Council of PTAs hosted a Candidates Forum for School Board. We were able to provide a unique platform that brings together candidates running for the school board position. This forum provided an opportunity for the candidates to showcase their ideas, discuss important issues, and engage with the community. Attendees were able to gain valuable insights into each candidate's vision for the school district and make informed decisions during the elections.

Parking Study

Lawndale Council is addressing the growing number of families who are concerned about finding safe ways to drop off their children at school. These families are also receiving parking citations causing economic hardship and increased stress for our families. We are working on finding a solution to drop off and pick up at each school site to better support Lawndale students and families.

What is a PTA?

The PTA, or the Parent Teacher Association, is a team of families, students, teachers and administrators devoted to the educational success of children and the promotion of family engagement in schools. In Lawndale, the PTA plans, operates and funds many extracurricular activities at the schools.  For instance, the PTA sponsors and organizes activities, such as fun runs or multi-cultural nights, plans fundraisers and community events, such as Movie Nights or Readathons, and it funds field trips and assemblies.

How can I help PTA?

You can help PTA is so many ways!

You can join and be a member. Members have voting privileges' and are able to direct how and what their PTA does.

You can donate money to help further the PTA's programs.

You can donate time and volunteer to help in small ways (help pass out flyers for 20 minutes) or big ways (becoming an officer and creating programs).

You can even just attend some PTA events and have a great time!

How much does it cost to become a member?

Each PTA's membership dues are different. However, all of the PTAs in Lawndale cost $10/year to join.

How much do PTA officers get paid?

All of the Lawndale PTAs are 100% volunteer based. So, everyone from the car valet to the President of the Lawndale Council is a volunteer and does not get paid at all.

The Lawndale Council of PTAs serves all students in the Lawndale Elementary School District. This council was founded in 1953 and for 70 years has been serving Lawndale and the community.
